History
In 1956 Stanley C. Allyn, president of the National Cash Register
Co in Dayton, Ohio, created the Allyn
Foundation as a means of contributing financially to his wide range of
interests in his community and country. After his death in 1970, the
management of the foundation fell to his heirs, his children and grandchildren.
By 1998 it became apparent that due to the geographical diversity of the family
as well as to their different interests and approach to philanthropy, it would
better serve the needs of the family to divide the Allyn Foundation into three
parts, each representing one of Mr. Allyn’s heirs. As one of these parts,
the Allyn Family Foundation was created, and is now administered by members of the Sunderland family.
